The harbour makes for a fantastic photo and when the tide is out we noticed a vast selection of rockpools to explore if that’s your thing. Camaes has shallow water making it ideal for kids and apparently the local butcher shop offers a unique pork and seaweed sausage! Why the hell not?

The lighthouse can be viewed from the adjacent cliff tops for free or for a close up, can be reached via 400 steps and a bridge located high above the powerful waves below (ticket required for tours of the lighthouse). For keen bird watchers or wildlife enthusiasts, South Stack is a perfect place to watch 1000’s of breeding seabirds including guillemots, razorbills and puffins. South Stack also has a RSPB Café.

Try and avoid high tide when the island is cut off from the mainland and remember that this place is very exposed to the elements. One of the most picturesque locations in the whole of Wales – on my watch, this is a must see!

It was the first place in the UK to be a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and when you visit you’ll see the reasons why. The Gower is a vast and varied environment made up of wild moors, dramatic limestone cliffs and epic never ending beaches. At times, driving through the open moors you’ll feel like you’re in the wilderness as you pass wild horses and grazing cattle (please be careful and give them a wide berth). At this point in the book, you may be sick of me talking about beaches, but hear me out, some of these Gower beaches are quite honestly the best I’ve seen in the UK and comparable with beaches across the world!
