Shortly after leaving the main road you will reach a fork in the road - take the left hand road (signed cycle route 68). Continue up the road for just under 2 miles, going over the cattle grid and onto the moor with signs for 'unfenced road'. Carry straight on towards the top of the moor and continue for another 2 miles after the cattle grid. Go past the Scotchcoulthard forestry on the right, and you will come to a sign for the farm and holiday cottages on your left. Turn left down the stone drive, and park on the right hand side. Please take care on the road through the moor and on the drive, as there may be sheep on the road.If you are in a 4x4 and would like to get more adventurous, please speak to Andy who will be able to advise on the best spot! The grass in the meadows will be cut for hay, so it is important not to damage the crop.

Go through the gate with the sign marked 'private', on the west side of the A697, there will be a chain on the gate but it is not locked. Continue straight on down the track ahead. At the fork in the track, turn right to follow the bend of the river. You are welcome to park at any point along this stretch of the riverbank, but the most private spot is some way down behind a small group of trees. If there has been recent rain the ground could be wet in places, so please only go as far as you feel comfortable.

1.5hr walkThe town is home to the fantastic First and Last Brewery, which is the starting point for the Hareshaw Linn waterfall hike. While Northumberland is home to several waterfalls, Hareshaw Linn is, in my opinion, the best. The walk takes roughly an hour and a half, but it's well worth the effort - hats off to the National Park authority who keep this inaccessible spot accessible!
